Confirmation for Teens

Confirmation is the sacrament that celebrates the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on a Christian in order to strengthen him or her for the Christian life.

Requirements for Confirmation

Parish Membership:
We celebrate the sacraments with our parishioners. If you are registered at another parish we will need a letter from your pastor giving us permission to both oversee your preparation process and for your reception of the sacrament here at St. Robert Parish. If you are not currently registered at any parish you need to register now.

Age:
The Archbishop of Milwaukee has determined that, in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, confirmation can be celebrated at approximately the age of 16 or when the candidate is in the 11th grade.

Baptism certificate:
Baptism is the “gateway” to all the other sacraments. It is the first sacrament conferred on a person, and it is therefore required for the sacrament of Confirmation. A copy of the candidate’s baptismal certificate is required. This is a requirement of the universal church.

Confirmation Preparation Requirements

  • Participation in all Sunday Evening Preparation sessions (with Sponsors if at all possible)
  • Letter to Confirming Bishop
  • Service project
  • Interview with a member of the parish Staff
  • One day-long retreat

Other Expectations of the Candidate

Weekly Mass Attendance
Attendance at a Catholic High School (remote preparation)
and/or Attendance at Life Teen (remote preparation)

Criteria for and expectations of Sponsors

  1. a baptized, confirmed, practicing Catholic (church law)
  2. at least 16-years-old (church law)
  3. not the candidate’s parent or adoptive parent; grandparents
and siblings are fine (church law)
  4. We encourage sponsors to attend as many of the confirmation preparation
    sessions as possible.

Preparation for Confirmation typically begins in the junior year and culminates with the sacrament celebrated on a date selected by the Archdiocese. High School seniors who have not yet been confirmed are invited to participate along with the juniors.
