Ongoing faith formation is essential to accomplish our mission to evangelize and transform the world into a more caring and just society. This does not end at confirmation or graduation but continues until one's death.
—Our Hearts Were Burning Within Us by the US Catholic Bishops
To this end the Lifelong Faith Formation Office wants to make you aware of these formational opportunities:
St. Robert offers two sessions of Scripture study each year: the first begins in September and the second usually begins in January or early February. Each study is approximately eight weeks in length depending on the book under study. The group meets on Monday evenings in the church basement.
Participants spend about (20) minutes a day prayerfully reading and reflecting on an assigned section of the Scriptures. Questions in the study guide direct the reflection, while the commentary provides solid Catholic scholarship that leads to deeper understanding of the Scriptures. Participants gather weekly to pray and then break into small groups share their responses to the assigned questions. A brief lecture follows the small group discussion to clarify the themes of the lesson.
Four essential elements daily personal study, personal and shared prayer, small group sharing and a wrap-up lecture lend balance to the study of Scripture. Little Rock Scripture Study's unique combination of study and prayer allows the information studied and the formation of prayer to lead to a transformation of faith to an active and dynamic faith that has meaning and application to people's lives and overflows to renew their parish community. Contact the Lifelong Faith Formation Office for details.
Small Faith Communities
A Small Faith Group meets on a monthly basis in members' homes to study Scripture and the issues they raise in our beliefs and daily lives. For more information, or suggestions for starting a group of your own, please contact Neal Pease at 963-1098.
Contemplative Prayer
Centering Prayer is a method designed to facilitate the development of Contemplative Prayer. In the Christian tradition Contemplative Prayer is considered to be the pure gift of God. It is the opening of mind and heart - our whole being to God. The source of Centering Prayer, as in all methods leading to Contemplative Prayer, is the indwelling Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The focus of Centering Prayer is the deepening of our relationship with the living Christ. The Centering Prayer group at St. Robert meets on Wed. mornings at 9:15. For more information call Barbara Prendergast at 414-964-1268.
