The St. Robert Parish Fair

An Annual Tradition

Kick off summer with food, fun, games and live music! St. Robert hosts a Parish Fair each first full weekend of June around the Feast of St. Robert of Newminster. Enjoy traditional favorites like a Beer & Wine Garden, Mexican cantina, corn roast, Saturday’s St. Bob-e-que and Sunday’s chicken dinner. There’s fun for everyone, with a rummage sale, book bin, bakery, bouncy house and face painting! Every year you’re sure to enjoy great live music from local artists – returning favorites and new acts.

A History of the St. Robert Parish Fair

(Written by parish historian Margaret Sankovitz for the Fair’s 50th Anniversary in 2023)

St. Robert Fair – 50th Anniversary – 1973-2023

The St. Robert Fair is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year!  Mitzi MacKedon and Ellen Top created the first Fair – June 3, 1973 – to foster camaraderie in the parish and that seems to have been successful through the years despite or because of …

… A popcorn machine that was responsible for blowing all the fuses in the rectory/parish office, bumper stickers that couldn’t be removed, torrential rain, straight line winds, tornado warnings, COVID

… Name changes – St. Robert Country Fair, St. Robert Family Fair, St. Robert Fair

… Original art for Bulletin covers, appearances on local TV shows – Dialing for Dollars and weather show with Albert the Alley Cat, student art contest – winners displayed in The Printer windows on Oakland Ave., “My Fair Maiden” displayed in window at Here and There gift shop

… Food offering changes and additions – from a simple first effort of hamburgers and hot dogs to bratwurst, corned beef sandwiches, French/Cajun fare at the Vigil Light Café, Mexican Cantina, Italian Sausages, pizza smoked brisket, chicken dinners, cotton candy, popcorn, ice cream, cream puffs on Sunday morning, coffee, beer, soda, Guinness, wine, Margueritas

… Sunday afternoon only, Saturday afternoon and evening and Sunday afternoon, story telling and card games and alumni gatherings under the tent on Friday night, alumni class reunions, family gatherings

… Bingo in Reilly Hall, money raffles, Philadelphia Trip raffle for Bicentennial, Fair Fun Run, Pie Contests, Dime Toss

… Mass on the Fairgrounds

… Live music, DJs, Karaoke, Irish Dancers

… Kids games, Bounce Houses, Dunking Machines, Mini train on tracks, pony rides, Ferris wheel

… Grandma’s Attic, Country Store, Bakery, Book Bin

… Venders Bazaar, Art Fair on Maryland Ave.

… Slogans – High Ho – Come to the Fair!! Be Alive in ’75!, St. Robert Fair – Be There!

The Fair has been held the first weekend in June since 1973 except for 2003 when it was staged May 7-8 in an effort to have better weather!

No matter the weekend or the weather, the Fair has maintained!

St. Robert Fair – See You There!
