Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA)
The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is the Church’s way of guiding adults, who have begun their journey of faith, to complete their initiation into the Catholic Church.
The process is for adults who…
- have never been Baptized
- were Baptized in another Christian church and now wish to come into full communion with the Catholic Church
- were Baptized in the Catholic Church but were not raised in the faith and are seeking to receive the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation.
This process takes place within the community of our parish. It is a gradual process in which parishioners join with candidates for the sacraments in sharing Scripture, building community, celebrating Liturgy, and serving the needs of others.
Order of Christian Initiation for Children (OCIC)
In addition to infant Baptism, St. Robert Parish also offers the OCIA process adapted for older children, unbaptized or baptized. These sessions are designed to educate children in the Catholic faith and prepare them for the sacraments to be received at the Easter Vigil.
Confirmation for Adults
“It is evident from its celebration that the effect of the Sacrament of Confirmation is the full outpouring of the Holy Spirit as once granted to the Apostles on the day of Pentecost.” Catechism of the Catholic Church. 1302
If you are an adult who has been baptized and raised in the Catholic Church but has not yet been confirmed, you are invited to join us to prepare to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation to be celebrated in the spring. Each confirmation candidate will be prepared for receiving the
sacrament by attending all or some selected OCIA learning sessions.
