Baptism Preparation
Baptizing Your Child
Through the Sacrament of Baptism, the Catholic Church joyfully welcomes new members into the Body of Christ. Since the time of the Apostles, we have been entrusted with baptizing “in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit” and teaching what the Lord Jesus had taught His disciples (Matthew 28:19-20).
At St. Robert Parish, Baptism of infants and young children includes important preparation including:
- The sincere desire to raise the child in the Catholic faith.
- Parish membership (or letter of delegation from pastor of current parish).
- Scheduling the baptism and the pre-baptismal orientation sessions.
- Selection of Sponsor(s)/Godparent(s) or Christian witness.
Pre-Baptismal Sessions for Parents and Sponsors/Godparents
Sessions are held each month. Please contact the Parish Office (414) 332-1164 ext. 3010, or email ddannecker@strobert.org, for details or to register for an upcoming session.
Who May Be a Sponsor/Godparent?
Sponsors/Godparents must be Baptized, Confirmed, and practicing Catholics. Baptisms are celebrated during the regularly-scheduled weekend liturgies. Baptisms are not scheduled during Advent or Lent, on certain holidays, or on days of major parish events (such as the St. Robert Fair). There may be more than one child baptized at a given Mass. Space in church will be reserved for family members and friends on the day of the Baptism. Please contact the Parish Office, (414) 332-1164 ext. 3010, or email ddannecker@strobert.org, to schedule a Baptism.
