Liturgical Ministry

Liturgical Ministries at St. Robert

“Servers, lectors… and members of the choir also exercise a genuine liturgical function. They ought, therefore, to discharge their office with the sincere piety and decorum demanded by so exalted a ministry and rightly expected of them by God’s people. Consequently they must all be deeply imbued with the spirit of the liturgy, each in his own measure, and they must be trained to perform their functions in a correct and orderly manner.”
Vatican Council II, Sacrosanctum Concillium, 29.

If you are interested in volunteering for a liturgical ministry, please contact Mari Sanchez, Director of Liturgy & Music via phone at (414) 332-1164, ext. 3043, or via email at msanchez@strobert.org.

Altar Servers

Teenagers and children, beginning in 3rd Grade, are invited to become altar servers. Altar servers serve weekday and/or weekend Masses. Experienced altar servers are invited to serve wedding liturgies. Servers arrive about 20 minutes prior to the liturgy they are serving, vest in an alb and cincture, check in with the presider, and help set up for Mass. Training for new servers takes place in October.

Greeters/Ushers

Greeters/Ushers welcome people as they enter church and help distribute Orders of Worship. They also assist in taking up the collection and inviting members of the congregation to bring up the gifts. As Mass ends, they distribute bulletins and greet people as they leave church.

Lectors

Lectors have the unique privilege of proclaiming the Word of God in the context of the Sacred Liturgy. “Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear” (Rev 1:3). In addition to proclaiming the Sacred Scriptures during Mass, lectors read any Parish announcements before Mass and lead the Prayers of the Faithful (Intercessions). Training and a lector workbook with explanations of each text are available. New lectors are always needed and welcome.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion assist the priests (and deacons, when applicable) with the distribution of Holy Communion. Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion also endeavor to meet the needs of the sick and elderly, and other persons, by providing Communion visits to the homebound, hospitalized, nursing home residents, or those in crisis. If someone you know would like to be visited by a homebound minister, please contact Kate Schuering at homebound@strobert.org or call the parish office.

Art and Environment Teams

Many women and men at St. Robert look after the artistic and liturgical needs of our public spaces of prayer. If you have a strong sense of interior design and decoration (or sewing skills!) the Parish could greatly benefit from your assistance.

Prayer & Worship Committee

The St. Robert Prayer & Worship committee is looking for new members, and for parishioners willing to help out from time to time. If you would like to envision and plan communal prayer opportunities for the Parish, desire to plan and receive ongoing formation for the Mass, and can attend a monthly meeting, consider joining the committee as a member. If you’d like to contribute time or materials on an occasional basis, to make a prayer event or special Mass possible, then consider joining an email distribution list to learn of opportunities. Please contact committee chair Caroline Klinker at prayerandworship@strobert.org to get involved. Visit the Community Prayer & Celebrations page to learn more about upcoming opportunities coordinated by the Prayer & Worship Committee.
